Room Eleven is er al een tijdje mee opgehouden en zit in een mooi vitrine kastje in ons hoofd. We zullen er met veel liefde aan terugdenken, want er zijn er veel mooie dingen gebeurd! Bedankt lieve mensen voor alle energie en liefde al die jaren!

JURY REPORT SILVER HARP
ROOM ELEVEN
Room Eleven’s bio reads like a teenage adventure novel with a girl in the starring role. A plucky, aspiring singer posts a note on the bulletin board at the conservatory in Utrecht: Seeking kindred spirits to write songs with. If interested, contact Janne Schra. Guitarist and songwriter Arriën Molema answers, and they start writing original material together. They debut in the heart of Amsterdam at the Uitmarkt Festival in 2004. Their first album, Six White Russians & a Pink Pussycat is released in 2006. They perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in that same year. They win an Essent Award and appear at major Dutch festivals: Noorderslag, Oerol and the Liberation Day festival – at two locations, no less. They sell out major venues Tivoli and Paradiso. They play the Montreal Jazz Festival. Their album goes platinum.
A flying start, but there are more successes ahead in 2008. On the group’s MySpace page (because that’s how things work these days), Japanese fans are begging to get to see them play. And so, just a few short years after their first gig, they’re off to Japan for six shows. Next, they’re headed to New York to meet American singer/songwriter Dayna Kurtz. It seems that in a fit of cheek, Janne had sent an e-mail to her idol Kurtz to ask if she might be interested in doing a duet. And Kurtz not only said yes, but she would even provide her studio and her producer, Randy Crafton. Mmm… Gumbo? is released in April 2008, with a sound even more varied than their first album. The spicy Cajun dish of the title was chosen to reflect the group’s versatility, because, like gumbo, the music is a unique blend of ingredients – in this case, ingredients like soul, jazz and folk.
Despite the group’s success, the band remains the picture of modesty. Wherever they go, they exude an irresistible charm that says “sorry, we didn’t mean it!” while at the same time being possessed of the perseverance and self-confidence that shows that they know very well what they’re doing.
The jury appreciates and respects Room Eleven for the fact that they have no problem pushing boundaries, don’t let limitations slow them down and aren’t afraid to just pick up and try whatever new thing they come across. Room Eleven is open-minded, a quality that will certainly continue to open up big opportunities for them in the future.
The jury sees Room Eleven as a true “band’s band” and admires the quality and originality of the music that Room Eleven plays.
With the award of the Buma Silver Harp, the jury hopes that the adventure novel continues to develop into the weighty bio of a long and successful career.

SOUTH AFRICAAAAA
Hahaha… check this out! I’m on the front page of the
Joy of Jazz festival in Johannesburg with two hot looking South African Jazz musicians and you can
listen to a short interview with me (beware it’s hard to understand… I’m the mumbling kind). We’ll play in Johannesburg on the 28th and 29th of august!
And we are really looking forward to it!! Afterwards we’ll hang around in the wild (dresses in the backpack!) and we’ll certainly stop by some wineries…

Nomination Gouden Notenkraker
We are nominated for a Dutch music prize: De gouden Notenkraker!
And I switch back to Nederlands…
We wisten niet wat het was, maar ‘t blijkt al 35 jaar een hele belangrijke prijs te zijn.
En wij zijn dus mooi genomineerd. Samen met Ilse de Lange en Gordon!
Heel leuk want ‘t betekent dat we even in Paradiso spelen… voor een clubje podium-goeroes.
We weten al dat we natuurlijk wel/natuurlijk niet gewonnen hebben, dus ga er even voor zitten op donderdag 27 aug 22:45
Dan zie je ons lekker van dat podium af zweten!

CARRÉ OP NET5
ZATERDAG 22 AUG om 14:00 uur en DINSDAG 25 AUG om 0:15 wordt een stuk van ons optreden “Live in Carré” op NET5 vertoond! Mis het niet als je de DVD nog niet hebt.
Mis je het wel, zoals wij (wij zijn dan onderweg naar Zuid Afrika…) zorg dan dat je een goede reden hebt!

Nijmeeeege
Eerst was er regen, toen zon, toen een regenboog, toen mensen, toen heel veel mensen, toen nog meer zon, toen liedjes van Room Eleven… en toen een zonsondergang, toen nog een toegift en toen dat hele eind weer naar huis, maar ‘t was zo mooi aan de Waal… zullen we niet snel vergeten!
